Expert TA: An Online Homework Solution and an Ecosystem of Assignable Shared Resources for Intro Physics

Commercial Workshop

Join us for lunch to learn about the latest resources and system enhancements offered in the Expert TA platform. A big focus of the session will be on the upcoming launch of the new Expert TA Ecosystem. We see great value in offering our community of instructors the ability to optionally share their automatically-graded materials with each other. There are already websites that let instructors post their activities and lecture notes with each other in static form. We are taking that traditional model and transforming it, starting with instructors being able to offer any of their own system-authored questions into an Ecosystem of materials to be shared amongst the community.

  • Monday – July 11, 2022

  • 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm Eastern Time (Lunch Provided)

  • DeVos Place, Grand Gallery D Meeting Room (on the main level of DeVos Place across from the Exhibition Hall.)

Expert TA’s platform has been a trusted online homework resource for Introductory Physics for over a decade with advanced question-types, immediate feedback for incorrect answers, and academic integrity features to address cheating. Now, our newest initiative is building a turn-key solution for shareable materials that are assignable and automatically-graded. In 2021, we launched a problem-authoring tool for instructors and as of now our platform houses over 17,000 user-authored questions, and instructors have pledged to share over 9,000 of these with the community to date.

We know instructors regularly author effective materials for their own classes. For static materials, such as PowerPoint lecture notes, there are a handful of OER websites where those can be shared, but there is currently no place to share automatically-graded questions, where other instructors can simply add those to their own assignments. We are excited to launch a new era of Expert TA where instructors can collaborate and leverage the valuable academic exercises created by the community.

Our Ecosystem will utilize machine learning, subject-matter expert review, instructor ratings, and usage metrics to curate the collection. From our assignment editor, while viewing Expert TA problems for a specific topic, instructors will be able to toggle to see community-authored questions appropriate to that same concept. Join us for lunch to learn more.
